Why we exist
Equity-comp clients often hold a large share of their net worth in a single stock — RSUs, ISOs, or pre-IPO shares they can't liquidate without a substantial tax bill. When markets turn, that concentration becomes real, unhedged downside. The tools to protect those positions exist, but they are hard to run consistently and even harder to document for a compliance file.
BallastX gives registered investment advisers a governed way to hedge concentrated positions systematically. The platform structures the recommendation; the advisor reviews and approves it; the client executes through their own brokerage. We are non-discretionary by design — we never take custody, place trades, or exercise discretion.
Our mission is exam-readiness: every recommendation, its basis, and the human decision behind it are sealed to an append-only, hash-chained ledger before any client action, so an advisory firm can show an examiner exactly how a decision was made and that a person — not a model — made it.
What BallastX is — and isn't
- A software platform for RIAs. It generates hedging analysis and documentation for advisors, not investment advice to end clients.
- Non-discretionary. Every recommendation requires explicit advisor review and approval. We never trade, take custody, or advise clients directly.
- Built for the compliance file. The output is not just a hedge; it is the retained, tamper-evident record a CCO and examiner expect to see.
- Early-stage and honest about it. We name our infrastructure providers, disclose what we have and haven't certified, and don't overclaim. See our security page for the detail.
