Who we are
BallastX ("BallastX", "we", "us", or "our") operates the BallastX platform, a governed hedging recommendation tool for registered investment advisors. Our contact email is privacy@ballastx.com.
What we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: your email address, firm name, and any profile details you provide during sign-up or account settings.
- Portfolio and position inputs: ticker symbols, share counts, cost basis, and related portfolio details you enter to generate a recommendation. These inputs are associated with your account and stored in the recommendation ledger.
- Waitlist and contact form submissions: if you submit an early-access or contact request, we collect your email address and any notes you provide. These are processed via Resend (see Third Parties below).
Information collected automatically
- Usage analytics: pages visited, features used, errors encountered, and similar product-usage events. These help us improve the platform and do not include client-identifiable financial data.
- IP address and user agent: collected for security purposes, abuse prevention, and standard server logging.
- Cookies and session tokens: Clerk places an authentication cookie to maintain your logged-in session. We may also place analytics cookies. See the Cookies section below.
Brokerage data (with explicit consent)
If you connect a brokerage account to read holdings, that connection is established through SnapTrade's OAuth flow. BallastX stores only a SnapTrade user reference ID. Brokerage credentials and OAuth tokens are held by SnapTrade, not by BallastX. You can disconnect a brokerage connection at any time from your account settings.
How we use your information
- To provide the BallastX platform and generate hedging recommendations.
- To deliver recommendation summaries and compliance reports to your registered email address, when you request them.
- To maintain the immutable audit ledger required for compliance documentation.
- To send transactional emails (password resets, system notifications) and, with your consent, product updates or early-access communications.
- To improve the platform, diagnose errors, and understand feature usage.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-party processors
We share data with the following service providers, solely as necessary to operate the platform:
- Vercel: hosts the application and processes all web traffic.
- Neon: stores account data, position inputs, and ledger records in a managed Postgres database.
- Clerk: manages authentication, session tokens, and multi-factor authentication. Clerk processes your email address and authentication credentials.
- Resend: delivers transactional and recommendation emails, and manages our marketing email audience. Resend processes your email address and email content.
- SnapTrade: manages read-only brokerage OAuth connections. SnapTrade processes brokerage credentials and account data on your behalf; BallastX receives only summarized holdings data through the SnapTrade API.
Each provider is bound by their own privacy policy and, where applicable, a data processing agreement with us.
Data retention
We retain your account data and ledger records for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Ledger records are maintained for audit purposes and are not routinely deleted. Position input data that is not part of an approved recommendation may be deleted sooner.
If you close your account, you may request deletion of personal data not subject to retention obligations by emailing privacy@ballastx.com.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@ballastx.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
Cookies
BallastX uses cookies and similar technologies for authentication (Clerk session cookies), security, and basic product analytics. Authentication cookies are strictly necessary to operate the platform. Analytics cookies help us understand how the product is used. You may configure your browser to refuse cookies, but doing so will prevent you from logging in.
Children
The BallastX platform is intended solely for licensed registered investment advisors and compliance professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 years of age.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices change or as required by law. We will post the updated policy on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the platform after a material change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
